MOREHEAD CITY — U.S. Army veteran Vincent Bingman has lived in his truck for nearly four years and needed a helping hand.
He was among many homeless and low-income vets, as well as others in need, who received help Thursday during Carteret County Veteran Stand Down 2018, held at the Morehead City-Beaufort Elks Lodge.
The Elks Lodge, NC Works Career Center, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Greenville and many other agencies that assist veterans and the homeless joined to present Stand Down, a national event designed to assist homeless vets.
Jane McClughan, chairman of the Elks Lodge, said while the main target was veterans, they opened the program to all homeless in the county.
